  • 2018-08-09: Challenges of Human Rights and Law in Sudan, Abdelrahman Al Gasim In Conversation with Eric Reeves, noon-1:30pm, 32 Dockser Hall, Northeastern University, 65 Forsyth St, Boston. Building 39 on the campus map, very close to the Northeastern T-station on the Green Line or the Ruggles T-station on the Orange Line. Abdelrahman Al Gasim, a Sudanese lawyer who is receiving the 2018 American Bar Association Human Rights Award for his courageous and effective work, will discuss his strategies for increasing access to justice for victims of human rights violations in Sudan. Eric Reeves is a renowned expert on human rights in Sudan and a Senior Fellow at Harvard’s Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights.   • 2018-06-21: Heart of Nuba, 7:30pm,  screening and Q&A, Natick Center for the Arts, 14 Summer St., Natick. This inspiring film is about the plight of the Nuban people in Sudan, under attack by their government since 2011, and focuses on the work of Dr. Tom Catena in the Nuba Mountains of Sudan. Tom won the 2017 Aurora Prize and was highlighted by Time Magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in 2015. Information about the film is online at www.theheartofnuba.com.   • 2018-04-22: 5th Annual Walk Against Genocide, 1:30-3pm, starting at the New England Holocaust Memorial, opposite 41 Union St, Boston, MA 02108, and proceeding to Armenian Heritage Park, with speakers at both sites.   • 2018-04-14: Kwibuka 2018, 24nd Anniversary Commemoration of the Rwandan Genocide Against the Tutsi, 3-6pm, Boston College High School, 150 William T. Morrissey Blvd Dorchester. Sponsored by Friends of Rwandan Genocide Survivors (FORGES) and Boston College High School. Please join us as we remember the victims, celebrate the resilience of survivors, and raise our voices to stand against genocides.
  • 2018-04-06: Get On the Bus 2018 will feature actions focused on Sudan, Sri Lanka, Tibet/China and Burma. The annual day of human rights education and activism organized by Amnesty International USA Group 133 of Somerville. Now in its 23rd year, GOTB draws upwards of 1,200 participants riding buses, commuter trains, and carpooling to New York City to take peaceful action in front of embassies, consulates and corporate headquarters in NYC in support of human rights. Buses will depart Alewife Station at about 6am and will return around 11pm. Register online here.
  • 2018-03-29: Lessons from the Rwandan Genocide: Empathy and Inclusiveness, 7-9pm, featuring Carl Wilkens, Viking Hall 123, Central Campus, Salem State University, 71C Loring Avenue, Salem. Join The Center for Holocaust and Genocide Studies as we present an evening with Carl Wilkens, the only American to stay in Rwanda during the country’s horrific genocide. Mr. Wilkens will talk about his experiences during his time in Rwanda and reflect about how communities can heal and come together in the aftermath of mass atrocities.
